Case Study: Team coaching transforms a European institution’s senior management team

The Challenge

A top-tier European Institution, responsible for driving innovation and economic impact across multiple countries, faced a critical leadership challenge. Its newly appointed President inherited a legacy leadership team navigating outdated systems, governance reform and internal cultural shifts.

To tackle these challenges, the Senior Management Team partnered with Performance Consultants to design a long-term coaching journey for the team.

A key requirement for the coaching was to integrate team development with the Board’s work agenda.

The Outcome

Facilitated off-site workshops laid the foundation for trust, alignment and behavioural change. The team engaged in values assessments, peer learning, executive coaching and guided reflection.

A shared team charter was created to establish principles for working well together – focusing on respect, open communication and a “can-do” mindset.

The coaching journey helped the team shift from fragmented leadership to collective effectiveness, enabling them to deliver on strategic priorities with clarity and cohesion.

With Performance Consultants’ help, we turned into an effective team.
I would have found the job very difficult to handle without their support.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can we expect from leadership team coaching?

Each leadership team coaching engagement is designed around your unique needs. We begin with a discovery phase to understand your team’s goals and challenges and team dynamics. From there, we co-create a structured coaching journey, usually over 6–9 months, involving:
    – Facilitated workshops (1–2 days each)
    – Live team observations and systemic feedback
    – Short virtual check-ins to sustain momentum
    – Custom tools and diagnostics to measure impact

Our work focuses on the team as a whole – not just individuals – creating the conditions for meaningful dialogue, lasting behavioural shifts and measurable team performance improvements. Feedback is delivered in a coaching style for shared learning and improvement.

  • How does team coaching differ from group coaching?

Team coaching is for intact teams who work together towards shared objectives and a common purpose. A team is its own entity with its own identity, performing tasks that are interconnected and too time-consuming or complex for an individual or a group of individuals working in parallel. For this reason, coaching for leadership teams focuses on team performance as a system, leveraging the collective wisdom of the team to enable the next level of team performance and deliver the deep systemic shifts needed at the leadership level.

Group coaching is coaching for individuals within a group context, across different departments or roles facing similar challenges. Group coaching focuses on personal development within a shared learning environment.
