The Multiple Benefits of Coaching

The following list is what John Whitmore in Coaching for Performance highlighted as the benefits of coaching to an organization of adopting what he calls a coaching culture:

  • Improved performance and productivity
  • Staff development
  • Improved learning
  • Improved relationships
  • More time for the manager
  • More creative ideas
  • Better use of people, skills and resources
  • Faster and more effective emergency response
  • Greater flexibility and adaptability to change
  • More motivated staff
  • Culture change
  • A life skill

Importantly, these skills will feed into benefits to the organisation.

Organisational Benefits:

  • reinforces company culture and values
  • harness the values in everything that is done
  • employees deliver on their potential
  • strengthen morale through better ability to find the way by themselves
  • better communications across all levels
  • greater initiative taking
  • aligns personal and management aims, interest and values
  • creates a better working atmosphere
  • enhances the sensitivity for customer needs and service
  • increases personal awareness and through it awareness for social and environmental contributions made by the company

While all of these areas will be positively impacted, the level of materialised business benefits also depends on the chosen focus and the quality of the coaching that will be established. Performance Consultants International will support you in maintaining highest standards and the monitoring and evaluation of progress. The process we have designed is based on our 20 years of experience in coaching, leadership and business performance work, and contains the elements that have proven to be the most effective and successful.

Introducing Performance Coach Management

Your in-house trainers will undertake a train the trainer programme called Performance Coach Training which will equip` them to roll out Performance Coach Management, a management training programme designed to help your managers get the best from themselves and their teams.   These trainings embody the principles and values laid out in Sir John Whitmore's seminal work "Coaching for Performance".

The accreditation criteria, standards and ethics of the training reflect those of the UK's independent coaching body, The Association for Coaching, of which John is Vice President.

The objective of Performance Coach Training is to train your trainers to deliver in-house training that then can be rolled out to Managers through-out your company in order to upskill their management and leadership skills.

The trainee trainers will first develop their coaching management skills to a high standard, then they will learn how to deliver the training modules entitled Performance Coach Management, a one day training followed by a second day approximately six weeks later, to develop a performance coach management style throughout the company.  The style of the training is;learning by doing. This is a very practical approach in which participants will have the opportunity to practise both coaching and training and to get feedback from our trainers and each other during the programme.

Five months after the start of the programme, your trainers will be apprenticed to one of our trainers to commence the roll-out of the programme throughout the company.

Course Components

Performance Coach Training will consist of 8 training and assessment days and 2 apprentice and observation days, with supervision and paired coaching throughout.

Performance Coach Management will consist of a one day followed approximately 6 weeks later by another one day.

Monitoring & Evaluation

We are committed to ensuring that the impact of our interventions with your organisation is captured in a way that is meaningful to your business. We will work with you to develop a method that meets your specific requirements and gives you the information that you need throughout the programme. We develop with you Performance Plan. We have a number of different Monitoring & Evaluation methods that we use to do this and, where possible, we work to achieve an estimated ROI on a project.

Measuring Transformation

Our research shows that the most successful, high performance organisations show a strong alignment between personal and current culture values, and current culture and desired culture values. Through our interventions your culture will more towards this alignment and your business will benefit from the high performance that comes with this.

We use this assessment of Current Culture Values (CCV) in order to enable you to see:

1) What the current culture of the group is so that you can track transformation

2) How and what behavior change drives your results, leading to you being able to proactively manage your culture

3) What impact your investment in coaching and any other interventions has on the bottom line by looking at the changes in your metrics and estimating an ROI for your investment

Information for the CCV is gathered by participants completing an online questionnaire. In it participants are asked to choose 10 behaviors and values from a list that has been customized for your organisation that best describe the current culture of the group. The top 10 of these values are then plotted onto this model.
