President’s Award

Each year, the President of the ICF presents an individual or organization with the President’s Award, in recognition of the work they are doing to promote coaching in a humanitarian capacity.  ICF President Kay Cannon, MCC, chose Sir John Whitmore as this year’s recipient for his outstanding contributions in the name of coaching throughout the world.

President's acknowledgment

“Sir John Whitmore immediately came to mind when I was making a decision for this award.  He has been coaching for over 30 years, has been rated as Britain’s Number One Business Coach, has been credited with having the most impact on the coaching profession globally and is a pre-eminent thinker in leadership, in organizational development and in social and environmental sustainability”, said Kay Cannon.

John Whitmore acceptance and appreciation

John Whitmore
thanking the ICF for the award and in particular for the important leading role they have played in the industry – November 2007

"All the signs are there, in work, in education, in healthcare, in all
sectors, that an essential evolutionary movement is beginning from hierarchy to self-responsibility. This is entirely positive and essential for humanityto cope with the multiple problems of environment and social justice. The coaching industry led by the ICF has grown up in response to this need and has a massive task to rise to the challenge. Coaches are the midwives of this transition that is taking place right across the globe – coaching is much bigger than coaching", said Sir John Whitmore.
