Tomoo
Machiba is a rare Japanese corporate responsibility, sustainability, and governance
expert working across Japan and Europe. He is multi-skilled with a unique combination
of career: ten years sustainability and corporate responsibility research and
consultancy, and fifteen years journalism experience. Tomoo's competency is based
on his involvement in a wide range of constituencies: from business through politics
and media to NGOs and academia. His familiarity with different demands and perspectives
has enabled him to provide business leaders with cutting-edge advice for right
decision-making in a cross-cultural environment.
Tomoo worked as an associate
for SustainAbility, a world's leading
corporate responsibility consultancy based in London between 1997 and 2002, and
has been a SustainAbility Faculty Member since.
He has been advising top managers of leading Asian multinational companies on
their sustainability strategies, corporate governance, transparency and accountability,
and stakeholder engagement. His past and current clients include companies such
as Sony, Canon, Hitachi, Fujitsu, and Omron. He has also worked with Keidanren,
the Japan Business Association.
Global
Initiatives
Between
2002 and 2004, Tomoo worked at the Global
Reporting Initiative (GRI) as a programme manager. His main responsibilities
included the development of the GRI sustainability reporting framework and the
stakeholder engagement process. He
also worked with other global initiatives such as ISO, the UN Global Compact,
OECD, and ILO. Through those experiences, he has established an extensive network
of European and Asian companies including over 100 GRI reporting companies. Since
2005, he serves as a senior consultant to the UNEP/Wuppertal
Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP)
while also working as an independent corporate responsibility consultant. |
